About Me
My musical journey began at a very young age, when I started playing with my grandpa's harmonicas and keyboard. But I was truly inspired when I first saw the violin being played right before my eyes.
The neighboring middle school orchestra performed for the elementary school for recruiting purposes when I was in 3rd grade, and oh, did it work!! It was love at first sight, and immediately after school, I asked my parents if I could learn how to play the violin.
What began as an interest turned into a full-blown passion, and I've been consistently and deeply involved in music ever since - playing with the middle school orchestra while I was still in elementary school, performing in a string quartet at my first wedding gig when I was in middle school, and even being a session musician for a well-known international rock band when I was a senior in high school.
I went straight to college to study music, which led to an internship at 91X, a prominent San Diego radio station, and I got to play live on the air!! (So exciting!!) I kept current in the San Diego music scene, performing for events with a string duo I co-founded as well as performing live and doing session work for bands. And in 2010, I graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Music (emphasis in Violin) and a minor in Pre-Therapeutic Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University (and I use both of those degrees every day!!)
After college, I performed for the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra, City Ballet Orchestra, and had the unforgettable opportunity of travelling internationally to play music, performing with my band in Spain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
My life is music - I'm SO energized by it - and I love sharing this joy and passion with my students!!
Although I teach from a traditional method, I incorporate a holistic approach, helping to create a foundation of theory, history, note-reading, improvisation, and technique, while using my vast personal experiences to provide a well-rounded and unique learning experience.
I expose my students to a variety of styles and genres so they can be better prepared to explore what most interests them, including (but not limited to) classical music, world music, hymns/religious pieces, as well as contemporary songs. And I also hone in on their strengths, personality, and goals to help them achieve the most out of music.
Through their learning of an instrument, I watch my students grow as people, too, overcoming their limiting beliefs and rising to the challenges they set for themselves. It's truly an honor be part of this development and progress, and I'm so happy to help foster this with each one of my students.
That's my story, but how does yours begin?
Let me know how we can get started on YOUR musical journey today!!
